RTI Showcases T3x Touchscreen Controller & More

Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) is showcasing for the first time several new offerings from its extensive product lineup at CEDIA. The company’s newest innovations on display will include the T3x touchscreencontroller, KX1 in-wall keypad with OLED display, KX3 advanced in-wall touchscreen controller, and AD-16x 16×16 audio matrix switcher. The solutions are designed to satisfy the control needs of a variety of settings including corporate, education, and home theater spaces.

New at this year’s show will be RTI’s T3x wireless control interface featuring a flush-mount 3.5-inch color LCD touchscreen with support for a Web browser and MPEG video. The unit features Wi-Fi® support and a dual RF platform for either one-way control via 433-MHz RF or bi-directional communication with RTI processors and supported third-party electronics through 2.4-GHz ZigBee. Integrated grip sensors and an accelerometer that acts as a tilt switch allow commands via hand movements. Other new features include an ambient light sensor, wireless update capabilities, a docking station, and a thinner, more ergonomic design.

With the new KX1 in-wall keypad, RTI is bringing a 1.2-inch color OLED display with support for two-way control. The KX1 keypad comes equipped with eleven customizable hard buttons for rapid access, a backlit volume level indicator, ambient light sensors, and hardwired Ethernet incorporated into the device.

Ideal for classroom and conference room setups, RTI’s KX3 advanced in-wall controller acts as both atouchscreen controller and advanced control processor with a 3.5-inch color LCD display and five customizable hard buttons. With an internal XP series processor and ZigBee antenna, the wired control interface enables seamless connectivity between the KX3′s internal processor and other RTI remotes. Hardwired with Power-over-Ethernet, the KX3 allows electrical power to be transmitted over data cables, resulting in less downtime, easier maintenance, and a simpler installation process. The unit also features six sense ports with sense-event capabilities to detect voltage or closure; four relays for control via contact closure; an integrated camera and microphone; proximity and ambient light sensors; and more.

RTI will also introduce the company’s new AD-16x 16×16 audio matrix switcher, bringing control via both IR/RS-232 and IP with two-way feedback to audio distribution applications. The device features audio pre-outs only, control protocol including group zone command, and a new Web interface for zone setup testing and zone grouping configuration.

New Affordable Touch-Screen Food Texture Analyzer Launched at Food Expo

First quarter shipments of touch-screen notebook post 4.57M units

With Microsoft introducing Windows 8 operating system that provides the touch interface in the fourth quarter of 2012,notebook PCs with touch-screen panels were released. And this led to the opening of a new market, for projected capacitive touch panels of 10 inches or larger.

There have been issues with touch-screen notebooks in its initial market, and some may rush to call it a failure. But it’s been only less than a year since such laptops were released, and thus it is yet too early to make any decision. True. Looking at the business plans of major laptop makers for 2013, touch-screen notebooks should hold at least 10 percent of the total laptop shipments. In particular, brands from the great China region, including Lenovo, Acer and Asus, have set higher targets of achieving more than 20 percent. 

According to a research by Displaybank, acquired by IHS, total shipments of notebooks with touch screens were 4.57 million units in the first quarter of 2013, up 51.8 percent from a quarter earlier. The touch laptops made up almost 10 percent of the overall notebook market, whose shipments posted 46 million units. Considering that the market is at its initial stage, the penetration rate of touch-screen notebooks is quite high.

With touch-screen notebooks released, manufacturing larger projected capacitive touch panels is accelerating and touch-screen panel related companies are trying hard to be the first to lead the market. Unfortunately, however, as there are no data on touch laptop market good enough to refer, it is not easy for the companies in the industry to set a business plan.

Displaybank published a quarterly “Touch Panel Shipment Database – Notebook PC” report to help them understanding the notebook-use projected capacitive touch panel industry quickly and accurately. The report provides quarterly shipments of touch-screen notebooks by unit/area/value; by inch; by brand; by form factor; by touch panel layer; by touch panel module and controller IC maker; and by cover window materials and bonding type, as well as top five models in terms of shipments.

Displaybank says the report should offer insight into the related market and industry to notebook set makers that are interested in notebook-use projected capacitive touch panels and companies related to touch panel modules, parts and raw materials.

Twitterrific 5 for Twitter going live for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users

Twitter’s API rules haven’t exactly made life grand for third-party clients, but that’s not stopping one of the larger names in the sector from pumping out a redesigned version of its famed app for iPhone 5 and iPad. The Iconfactory’s Twitterrific 5 for Twitter (yes, that’s the full name) is now available in regions where it’s official December 6th, with the rest of the world expected to see it in the coming hours. It’s a completely overhauled and redesigned effort, boasting a unified timeline, support for Apple’s newest iOS devices, “robust” VoiceOver support, custom themes, pull to refresh, and plenty of other power options for those who’d be willing to pay for such luxuries. Heck, there’s even offline support for posting, favoriting and following. Early adopters should be able to snag a copy for under $5, but the introductory fare is slated to expire at an undetermined point in the future.

MeridianSooloos produce first jointly developed touchpanel: Control 10

Given just how zany the past few months have been in the HD world, you probably

forgot all about Meridian and Sooloos' little tie-up back in December. Lo and behold,

 the newly conjoined company has just released its first jointly developed product,

the Control 10 touchscreen. The device integrates Meridian's proprietary connectivity

 with a Sooloos touchscreen in order to create what's called the "most user-friendly
